British Computer Society (BCS) Recognition

In common with most other UK Universities, Open University courses in Computing are recognised by the British Computer Society (BCS). Students who take particular specified courses may be eligible for exemption from some of the requirements for membership of the BCS. The specific course requirements are set out in OU Recognition Leaflet 3.7 (see below) for both undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Note that there are different lists of courses depending on the date when students complete or expect to complete the courses for their OU award.

Recommended exemptions for students who graduate between the years 2005 and 2009 are listed in the recognition leaflet.

OU Recognition Leaflet 3.7 is available on-line or can be obtained in printed form by contacting the University. This leaflet also contains some additional notes and information about other professional bodies. This information is provided to students for guidance purposes only. Students are urged to check all details with the BCS before taking any action based on this information.

The BCS has a useful 'Career Centre website' which contains advice about looking for work in the Computing industry.
